Meet Tinker! This foxy boy is a 2-year-old Shiba Inu with a heartbreaking past and a whole lot of love to give. He was rescued from an illegal kennel where he lived in a dark shed surrounded by filth and waste. Thanks to a dedicated rescue and law enforcement team, he was pulled from that nightmare and eventually transferred to us to find the life he truly deserves.

 

Tinker is truly amazing. He’s a classic Shiba — independent and a bit aloof at first, but once he trusts you, he’s sweet, snuggly, and so loyal. He’s wonderful with other dogs and would do great with a confident canine buddy. He’s just a gentle, kind soul who’s been through too much. He is starting to realize life is good so loves to play bow and zoom across the house playing with his foster dog siblings! He even started playing with stuffed toys lately! When he knows you’re his person, he is a clinger and loves to sit right on your lap.

 

Before coming to us, Tinker escaped from his previous shelter and went on an 11-day adventure across farmland, with no sightings the entire time. He had to eventually be humanely trapped by a pet recovery team. So, one thing is clear: Tinker is an escape artist of the highest level. And while some dog bios mention a “fenced-in yard required,” in Tinker’s case, it’s the opposite—he absolutely cannot be in a fenced yard. He’ll scale it faster than you can blink, and he won’t come back. It’s not that you can’t have a fenced yard, but if you adopt Tinker, you must be 100% committed to leash-walking him ONLY forever. If you put him in a fence, you will ABSOLUTELY lose him. Tinker needs a calm, responsible home—either with adults or older, dog-savvy kids, not because he isn’t good with little kids, but because he can be scared of fast tiny zooming humans and needs a family that’s always aware of open doors and windows. He needs a family who will not only love him, but also protect him, forever. If you can offer safety, patience, and devotion, Tinker will reward you with unconditional love.
