Harley's Haven Dog Rescue

If you always find yourself rooting for the underdogs, you're going to want to read Gibson's story. This is Gibson. He is is a big, sweet gentle Foxhound who spent more than four years in a shelter. Let that sink in. Four years💔 Think about where you were four years ago. Think about everything that's happened in your life since then. The places you've gone, the holidays you've celebrated, the people you've met. For Gibson... all of that time passed from inside a kennel. Now, at around 10 years old, Gibson is hoping his story is finally changing. He's technically a senior, but don't tell him that. Every now and then he'll break into the funniest, most awkward zoomies you've ever seen, galloping around the yard with pure joy before deciding he's done and returning to his favorite hobby — being a couch potato. Home life is still brand new to him, and it's both sweet and heartbreaking to watch him slowly discover all the little comforts he's missed out on. One thing he does know is that stuffy toys are fantastic, bully sticks are even better, and sunshine is meant to be enjoyed with an enthusiastic little beetle dance in the grass!

 

Gibson has spent virtually his entire life surrounded by other dogs, and because of that, he absolutely needs a canine companion in his forever home. Dogs are his comfort, his confidence, and his family. At the shelter, he always had a "girlfriend" by his side. When his best dog friend passed away at the shelter, Gibson went into a deep mourning💔 The staff quickly found him new companions because they knew how much he depended on them. Watching Gibson with another dog is pure joy and peace.  He has a very special bond with her shelter bestie turned foster sister, Dixie, so finding them a forever home together would be a dream come true.

 

This cutie is a big, taller guy—about 80 pounds — With an even bigger ♥️(Don’t tell him this, but he is on a little diet because he needs to lose a few pounds)! He is house trained and has settled beautifully into his foster home beautifully! Like any dog who's spent years in a kennel, he will need a family willing to give him grace as he continues learning that this new life is his forever. Gibson is currently being treated for heartworm, a process we're covering, and he'll simply need an adopter willing to help him finish that journey as he heals. The thing that truly strikes everyone who meets Gibson is his kindness and his innocence. There isn't an ounce of bitterness in this sweet dog. After everything he's been through, he's still gentle, trusting, and seems so grateful for every soft bed, every toy he gets to carry around, and every kind human he meets. Some dogs become symbols of why rescue matters, and Gibson is one of them. While we can't give him back the four years he lost in the shelter, we can make sure the rest of his life is filled with beauty, being spoiled and adored, and most importantly, being safe and loved. And after waiting this long, we think it's finally Gibson's turn.
