A Concert With A Purpose

Harley’s Haven concert fundraiser is our primary source of fundraising for our annual trip to Big Corn Island, Nicaragua, as well as fundraising for our local clinics.  Our concert helps our network of animal lovers and advocates connect with our local community to share in our support of this wonderful project!  Our event is held at John B. Haines IV Events with catering by Tosco’s and delicious desserts by Babushka’s. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, attracting more than 250 animal-loving guests annually.  We have room to welcome even more old friends and new this year for an afternoon of family friendly fun, basket raffles, delicious food, and live music – all with a purpose of improving the quality and life and care of animals both here and abroad.

 

Making A Difference One Pet At A Time

Harley’s Haven Dog Rescue has been rescuing dogs and saving lives for almost 10 years – in that time, we have locally rescued over 1200 dogs!  Four years ago we stumbled upon the island of Big Corn in Nicaragua which is home to over 9000 people and their pets, but has NO vet care. This has historically led to outbreaks of diseases such as distemper, and many other health issues and concerns, and a large population of stray animals.  In 2016, a small team of veterinary professionals headed down, bringing all the supplies we needed to set up a temporary clinic for 4 days with a focus on education, vaccination, and sterilization.  We were able to help over 400 animals that first year and have now in the past 3 additional years helped a grand total of over 1500 animals!  You can SEE the difference on the island in this short time – the number of strays has greatly decreased, and we have prevented another outbreak of distemper from going island-wide.  The people of this island are so appreciative, and really want to do better for their pets, and we are here to help them.  Last year we also added a clinic locally – we set up the same style clinic right here in Philadelphia in an underserved community and were able to provide free veterinary care to 486 dogs/cats.  We plan to expand our efforts locally in the years to come!

Saving more lives requires more resources. Harley’s Haven Dog Rescue is an independent nonprofit and is not funded by other organizations or tax dollars.
